Scale modelling is an activity which is being used by both amateurs and professionals. Where the average hobbyist usually builds his or her model purely for his or her own entertainment,On Scale modelling Articles many professionals use scale modelling for building small models of new products and modelbouw designs and normally start building their models from scratch.

For the hobbyist however, it's a lot more common to start with a so called "modelkit" which contains pre-made parts which, once put together, form from existing or historical vehicles, vessels or aircraft.

Eventhough until a couple of years ago the scale modeller had only a few choices when it came to picking a new model to build, these days there's a huge range of models in various scales and subjects which are being produced by many large companies. In particular models of brands such as Tamiya, Dragon, Trumpeter and not to forget Revell are very popular and although these models are often very buildable "straight out of the box", a huge range of "after market" parts are available which raise the bar considerably when it comes to building realistic scale models. When talking about after marketproducts, you can think about metal tubes and wire to replace the plastic parts in the original modelkit, photo-etch sets which give you the opportunity to add smalle details to your model then would be possible with plastic, replacement decals to be able to build other versions of the model and of course the many replacement parts with a higher degree of detail made ??of molded resin.
