Top tips to buying corporate gifts

Corporate gifts represent the premium end of the promotional products market, both in terms of cost and quality.

Corporate gifts represent the premium end of the promotional products market, both in terms of price and quality. They reflect a company or brand’s ethos, so it is essential to select a gift that will convey the right message.

There are many types of corporate gifts to choose from, including hotel and leisure vouchers, experience vouchers, executive gifts, food and drinks.

When buying corporate gifts it is important to think about the profile of the target market. For maximum impact and positive brand recognition, the gift should match the recipient’s lifestyle and interests. The most well-received corporate gifts are those that the recipient is unlikely to buy themselves, but would love to own or experience – thereby fulfilling their aspirations and dreams.

However, some companies have a corporate policy that bans their employees from receiving any kind of gifts. Others will pool all gifts received, especially at Christmas, and share them out amongst all the staff. It is necessary therefore to establish the intended recipient’s company policy on this matter.

The question of branding is also critical. Unlike promotional giveaways handed out at trade shows, for example, the prime objective of corporate gifts is to demonstrate appreciation and to develop lasting relationships with key customers. An expensive gift can therefore easily be devalued if it bears a company logo, however subtle.

It is worth obtaining estimates from at least three suppliers, but in order to give them a full and accurate brief, the budget must first be determined. Otherwise the suppliers may waste valuable time sourcing brilliant corporate gifts that are outside your price expectations.
