The individual who suffers from acne is always looking for acne treatment regimens that work to reduce the effects of the condition. Perhaps as important as all the direct remedies to treat acne is the necessity to help improve the overall condition of the skin.  These skin improvement techniques don't have to be cutting edge practices.  Sometimes they have been used for generations.  Natural remedies are always popular while oral and topical antibiotics are more recent in nature but no less effective than previous treatment and in many cases have made true cures possible. Check with your medical professional to determine what are the best way to treat your acne condition.

Natural Remedies

One of the primary acne treatment methods that helps to improve the skin condition is actually several specific modalities lumped under the title 'natural remedies'.  This can mean anything from drinking plenty of water each day to using organic cleansing products that will gently and effectively remove dead skin cells,Acne Treatment-Four Tips To Improve Your Skin Articles oils and bacteria from the skin.  Often, cleansing is accompanied by moisturizing agents.  The latter adds back natural oils so that the skin doesn't end up with cracks from drying agents. Obviously, any break in the skin can increase the chance for infection and related problems.

Exfoliation

Another commonly used acne treatment that does double duty as a way to improve the overall condition of the skin is that of exfoliation.  Exfoliation is a process of gently abrading the dead top layer of skin cells to free up the newer, younger and presumably healthier layers of cells that are working their way to the surface. This helps a smoother skin appearance, especially if the exfoliation is done using gentle products and techniques rather than a harsh scrubbing action on the skin. The effects of exfoliation can last hours or even days.

Oral Antibiotics

Probably the most commonly used acne treatment is oral antibiotics. The antibiotics will usually be those that are intended to reduce the population of the bacteria Propionibacteriumacnes. P. acnes is a normal resident of the skin surface but quickly multiplies and creates problems when it takes up residence in the  hair follicles that are blocked, thanks to sebum.  By inhibiting the growth of the total number of these pesky organisms, they are less likely to cause the outbreaks, blackheads, whiteheads and lesions that are known collectively as skin acne.  Usually moderate to severe outbreaks require oral antibiotics rather than topical.

Topical Antibiotics

Topical antibiotics are those that are used on the surface of the skin.  These can last for several hours while others are intended to treat a single blemish that threatens to ruin a social occasion or a prime photographic session. Topical acne treatment is, like the oral antibiotics, intended to inhibit the growth of p. acnes bacteria especially in areas where there is blocked follicles. Blocked follicles are prime breeding grounds for the bacteria that are linked to acne. Topical antibiotics are more likely to be used on mild or sporadic acne outbreaks rather than for severe outbreaks.
