When you first enter affiliate marketing it might sound very attractive at first. And it is believe me we make a decent income doing it every month. But you have to remember that marketing your own products or marketing products for others is still a business and it will take time, money and effort to eventually become successful at it. One of the most common questions beginning affiliate marketers have is what do I sell or which niche should I get into? One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is trying to reinvent the wheel or they think that creating their own shiny new product is required.
I can tell you that you don't need your own product, regardless of what others say. You can sell other peoples products, without even having a list of your own and do great. But there is one catch. You have to know how to drive traffic and lots of it to your website in order to make a sale per day or more. If you want to make a full-time income, you will need to be able to drive at least 1,000 unique, targeted visitors daily to your offers. Make sure what you promote is ever green as an affiliate. By this I mean make sure the products you promote will be around for years, not just months or you might end up on the hamster wheel for a long time.
This is why I recommend that affiliate promote high priced products outside of the Internet Marketing Niche if they are really looking for years of income they don't have to keep chasing down. Have you ever thought of building your own Internet Retail Store? These types of stores are great and can earn you a lot of money, but you need to be aware of a few things first. Most of them are promoted on Yahoo Stores, but there are other platforms as well. Plus you can easily mark up all the products in your store 30% or more. Also when you put up these products you will need to write unique descriptions for these yourself or outsource these at about $4.00 each.
Now if you don't want to go the retail marketing route and just stick with affiliate marketing, I'd really stick with the herd and stay with the most competitive niches and work hard to carve out your little area within these. For example if you are in the health niche focus your entire site on one part of health, like Colon Cleanse or Fitness Equipment. Fitness Equipment is priced very high and even a 6 percent amazon commission on a $1,000 product isn't bad at all. Imagine if you sold one of these per day. There's still a lot of opportunity as an affiliate marketer if you are willing to put in some work and go out and get lots of backlinks to your websites and blogs.
