An Oil Change is Not the Only Service a Car Needs

An oil change is something that any vehicle needs in regular intervals, but it isn't the only service that should be performed repeatedly over time.

An oil change is a basic necessity of vehicle ownership, because it is vitally necessary to have one done regularly to ensure that your car or truck runs smoothly. That being said, it is not the only type of preventative maintenance that you must stay on top of.

Depending on where you take your car or truck in for an oil change, the service may be part of a package deal where it is completed along with other necessary types of work. Not all auto mechanics do this, however, and in many cases you would need to request these other services to ensure that they are completed.

So what else should you have done when you take vehicles in for an oil change? That answer depends on each individual case. Certain types of preventative maintenance are standard across the board and in many cases can run on the same time frame as your regular changes, meaning that they can be slotted in to be completed in the same intervals. Others are matters that you must observe as needing to be completed, typically due to a lack of sufficient performance.

Lube service is a very standard component of the typical oil change, and almost exclusively is included in the basic price as a component of the work. If it is not, it is something that should be completed every time one is performed, as it acts to lubricate engine parts and make sure things run smoothly under the hood.

Changing the filter is also something that is almost always included in basic changes, and is also necessary to get the most out of your engine. The filter acts to keep harmful materials out of key areas of the engine to keep it running successfully.

A tire rotation is also something that you should make sure to schedule regularly, although it is not necessarily something you need to do as often. Having a mechanic check to determine whether your tires are wearing evenly and have sufficient tread can tell you whether the work needs to be done, and if it does it will help save life on your tires and help your vehicle run more smoothly.

Changing your windshield wiper blades is also something that must be considered. Over time, wipers wear down and cease to clear the windshield as well as they once did. A squeaking sound when in operation is a clear sign that your wipers are not working uniformly and should be replaced.

Other various types of work can accompany an oil change as well, and it can be helpful to consult with a mechanic to determine what these may be. At the same timeFind Article, it is best to observe how your car or truck is performing yourself to see if you notice anything amiss.
