Brand new automobiles usually come with tools that are adequate enough to enable the driver to change the wheels when he or she experiences a flat. A jack, usually hydraulic, is one of the most important tools to have for fixing flats. This tool is primarily aimed at lifting one side of the vehicle in order to facilitate taking out the flat and replacing it with the spare. It takes some knowledge of where to strategically place the jack in order to be able to use it properly. It can also be used to lift the car and to allow a mechanic or the car owner an unobstructed view of the underside of the automobile, facilitate an oil change, fix other aspects of the wheels and more. The tire wrench is also important in auto repair because this particular tool is fitted to the lug nuts in the wheel. It can loosen and tighten them accordingly.

Loosening and tightening

These aspects are light ones and can be easily done at home. At some point in time, all vehicles will need tightening in some areas. Using it can cause normal wear and tear of the car, such as the loosening of bolts, nuts and screws as the vehicle moves and travels. For both tightening and loosening, different kinds of screwdrivers, wrenches and Allen wrenches should be available. There are many different sizes available in stores and it is advisable to get the more common ones sizes so these can be used in other household chores and projects as well as in the car. One of the most common areas of the car that may need regular tightening are the doors, since these are constantly opened and closed. Wrenches and screwdrivers are universally used anywhere and are very handy to have at the house and not just for auto repair purposes.

Pliers

These tools are very handy for many electrical project and auto repair. Long nose ones are usually utilized for fine projects that may need separating electrical wires from each other while other kinds of pliers are used to cut or splice wires. There is a grove in the base of the pliers’ mouth and this is where wires are placed to be cut. Some pliers have separators that cut the outer plastic covering but leave the wires inside intact and out of the covering.

These are just a few of the more common auto repair tools that a car owner may find handy to have at home or left in the vehicle.
