Know Why an Oil Change is Necessary

Most people know that they need to have an oil change performed on their vehicle every so often to maintain the engine, but they may not fully understand why. If you are one of those people, it can be helpful motivation to learn the many reasons.

An oil change can be a hassle to fit into your schedule and your budget, but it pales in comparison with how difficult things will become for you if you fail to have it done every so often.

Those who work on and understand vehicles will attest to the fact that an oil change is effectively an insurance policy on your car or truck that you pay a premium on every few months. In exchange for paying to have it done when your vehicle requires it, you are effectively covering yourself against much larger and more costly issues from occurring and are prolonging the life of your engine.

Nonetheless, many people accept this as fact despite not truly understanding why an oil change is so vital to the livelihood of their engine. In some cases, this can lead to individuals pushing their engines too far or for too long without taking it in for maintenance, simply because they do not understand the urgency of doing so.

So why is this common form of maintenance so necessary, and what happens if you choose to ignore it or neglect it? Knowing the answers likely won't surprise you, but they may scare you.

Without regular changes, friction will increase between all the various metal parts that come in contact inside an engine. This can lead to two things: First, these parts will begin to wear down much quicker, and then the temperature within the engine itself will begin to rise, which is where the serious trouble begins.

If the temperature inside engines is allowed to increase too much, it can begin to wear away at the surfaces of its pistons. If this continues to happen over time, engines will seize completely, stop working and leave the vehicle completely unusable.

In terms of what can happen if a car or truck does not receive a regular oil change, this is obviously the worst extreme. It isn't the only potential issue, either. Without regular changes, the product flowing throughout your vehicle can become dirtier, which produces sludge.

Sludge, in a nutshell, is a thick, mud-like substance that can begin to coat all of the moving parts under your hood. When this happens, it can cause them to move more slowly, which in turn can cause engines to slow down as well. In the end, this will effectively cause your car or truck's revolutions per minute, or RPMs, to go down, causing performance to suffer.

In specific modelsHealth Fitness Articles, there are a number of other potential issues that can arise if you fail to have an oil change performed regularly. The good news here is that the solution is simple - take your vehicle in for regular maintenance and avoid these types of problems altogether.
