The best way to keep a new car running well is to stay abreast of regularly scheduled maintenance. Some people think that if a vehicle is brand new there is less need for upkeep because there has not been as much wear on the parts. Nothing could be further from the truth. All mechanical devices require some level of break in period during which there is work that must be kept up with and maintenance that needs to happen. For example having an oil change is a necessary and by far the most common thing that needs to be done to keep a automobile running well.
The most important reason to have an oil change every three months or three thousand miles is to ensure that the lubrication that protects and allows smooth operation of things is replaced and replenished. In new vehicles there can be a fair amount of manufacturing excess and protective films that have to work their way off of the engine parts. It is imperative this happens after the first three thousand miles because small metal shavings and dust will be in the lubricant after this break in period and need to be removed to prevent potential damage.

The other reason it is so important to have regular oil change service done is because of the diagnostic component to it. If a mechanic is regularly inspecting the vehicle there is a far smaller chance of something happening that is catastrophic and causes a major repair to be necessary. Even new cars can have things go wrong and by having someone under the hood checking on the fluid levels and operation of things there is a greater chance of catching things early. This is because a mechanic typically offers a many point inspection as part of any service and this will often reveal potential problems or likely dangers. By having someone who is knowledgeable look at all of the components it is much more likely that something will break or malfunction in between inspections.

An oil change is just one of the occasional types of maintenance that must be done on a car. Even if you buy something brand new off of the lot you still need to have it routinely inspected and maintained. Having a lube job is a great way to make sure that nothing more serious needs to be fixed. In fact it is far more likely that you will not have to have a more serious repair if you have this routine work done because often the solution is a simple fix or a reasonably priced part that will prevent an expensive breakdown.
