If you are shopping for a car or found one you really like either by research or from a dealership with special offers you will still have to haggle or negotiate before you get to take the vehicle home. Even if a company or person is offering you what they say is their lowest price, you have to remember that they will still be making a profit somewhere so there is still money to be dropped off the price. You could end up saving thousands.

Another good idea is if you want a certain model of car; find out when the new model is released. This way you may catch a dealer that is willing to sell off older models on the cheap to make room for new cars. Car salesmen, like any sales person have targets to meet. If you can find out if they have a lot of pressure on them, then you may be able to get the car cheaper again as they may want to hit their goals and work targets. These times are usually either the end of the working week or end or working month of even end of the year. Think about the last Friday of the year. Imagine if they haven’t hit their year targets, cars will be going extremely cheap in order to get rid of them and get those numbers up.

Always have a list prepared for what features you want your vehicle to have and make sure you have a lot of time to spend in a showroom. This way you are not going to settle for a second best car and you have time to find out the ins and outs. If there are features on a car that are not going to benefit you or you don’t need but would still have to pay extra then make it clear you wouldn’t pay extra for something you aren’t going to use.

Another idea to make them know they haven’t got a sure sale is to show off the fact that you have a few cars and garages in mind and you are comparing quotes. Even if this isn’t the case and the garage in question has the car you want. They will try and reel you in to buy from them so the price may go down again. Also if you have a car already, don’t let them know until you have reached the lowest price possible. That way you can value your current vehicle and if the prices are close then you may have to pay hardly anything if you trade it in.

Last thing to remember is keep haggling, tell them that another place is doing the same car cheaper etc. This will drive them wild and they may throw in some extras. And don’t fall for general sales talk. They will try and make you believe there is so much interest in the car you want in order to scare you into buying. Don’t believe it. It’s a clever sales technique.
