Auto paint guns can save you some money by allowing you to paint your own car. But, they can cost you more money than you bargained for if you don’t know what you are doing and there are other things to keep in mind as well. If you don’t do your research and understand how the paint gun works, not only will you end up wasting paint but you will also end up making a horrifying mess as well. And, there are still other dangers to worry about.

An auto paint gun has to be used correctly or the fumes can quickly become overpowering and may make you sicker than you would have ever realized. If you are painting and you start to feel lightheaded, dizzy or nauseas, it is time to go out and get some fresh air. If a few moments of fresh air doesn’t help you or you start having an increasingly hard time breathing, it is time to go to the emergency room to be checked out. You can cause permanent lung damage with the chemicals found in many kind of paints. To be safe, make sure that no one else is in the area when you start painting and move all pets out of the area as well.

In addition to health problems, you can actually cause more damage to your vehicle’s finish if you are not using the paint gun properly. For instance, if you are holding the gun’s nozzle too close to the surface, you can end up with bubbles, streaks and runs that may never dry properly. If the paint is not applied correctly it can also flake off which may increase the risk of rusting.

The wrong type of paint gun can cost you in extra paint. The type of paint that you choose must flow through the paint gun properly or it may clog the nozzle. Certain types of paint guns rely on pressure or gravity to allow the paint to flow. The paint may remain in the gun, with nothing showing or coming out causing you to have to keep refilling it. When you go to clean the gun out, you might be surprised by how much paint you are actually finding left behind.

The method that you use to power your paint gun should also be a consideration. If you don’t have the right type of compressor, then you have to factor that cost into the cost of buying your auto paint guns.
