Where to Get Auto Repair in the Middle of Nowhere

Have you ever had the unfortunate experience of needing an auto repair when you are at least 200 miles away from your hometown? Well, if you have then you know what a frustrating and costly experience that can be. After a beautiful weekend in the country, with your family you go out to your car only to find that it will not turn on after multiple attempts. You think, oh it must be the battery is dead. But, you quickly surmise, no the radio and lights still work, so that is not the problem. Your next thought is that, maybe the car is actually out of gas, so you add more fuel. But, that is not the culprit either. It soon becomes very clear that your problem is a bit more serious and an auto repair is in your future.

So you are miles away from home, the mechanic you trust is not there to diagnose the issue and you are left stranded in the middle of nowhere with a grumpy family that just wants to get home. But, going home is not an option at the moment. You need an auto repair quickly, but suspect that this is not going to be a quick and easy fix. However, you have a hard time admitting this to yourself. And, with two kids screaming at each other, a wife who is ready to lose her mind, you think it is your job to save the day and get everyone home. Naturally, you start to tell yourself this might be the time to implore some creative ideas to fix your car yourself. And, being the Macgyver that you are you decide to give it a try. After gathering the most readily available supplies, like some baling wire, vegetable oil and thoughts of good luck, you rig a few things up and try the key in the ignition again. But, much to everyone’s disappointment your vehicle is still dead. You are going nowhere fast, and everyone is on the brink of a meltdown.

So, you call your mechanic on the phone and ask him to diagnose the problem over the phone. Being the kind and skillful person that he, is he advises you to check a few major areas under the hood and call him back with an update. About an hour later, you are covered in grease, have half of the timing taken apart and about three random diagnoses of what the problem is. But, you do not want to give up. However, your family feels quite the opposite. But finally, after four hours of working on your vehicle, asking for opinions from family and well meaning passer-bys you admit to yourself that it may be time to call a tow truck and get a real auto repair started.
