Successfully raising money for sport teams is a lot of work. One tried and true method is with a fundraiser event. Anyone can get together a fundraising event. However, the key for it to be a successful event is profit vs. cost.

Stay clear of any fundraising idea that requires a lot of upfront money to purchase a product or service to sell. These types of events typically only gain a 20%-40% profit, meaning a lot of work and time for little result. The most profitable method of raising money for a sport team is with do-it-yourself (DIY) ideas.

Raffle tickets usually make for a good fundraising event because you only have to come up with the cost of one item to raffle. The local community might even have a business that will be willing to donate the raffle item. The rest is legwork for the group to sell the tickets.

If you can not find an item that is cheap enough to gain a substantial profit, think about the resources you have on hand- members of the sport group. It is very easy and cheap to organize an auction for the members of the sport group to provide a service; for example, bidding on a date, bidding on lawn service, bidding on a babysitter, etc..

The profit vs. cost will also be impacted by how motivated the sporting group is to work for the success of the fundraiser. A constant reminder, such as a fundraising thermometer or visible sample of what the proceeds will go toward, can be a great motivational tool.

Successfully raising money for sport teams can only be successful if the profit is greater than the cost of operation!
