Powis Parker Fastback recently released a brand new type of binding strip called the Image Strip and has invented a new type of binding called "Imagebinding". This new type of binding represents a radically new approach to document presentation. More than a simple binding solution, Imagebinding is a completely new approach to corporate identity. It allows you to make a strong impression with every book you bind. The key element of Imagebinding is the Image Strip, which features a front panel that is large enough to add graphics, logos and photo images. In fact, you can even design your own strips to reflect your corporate branding needs. This article will describe in detail the process of binding a document with this new style of binding strip using the Fastback Model 9 Binding Machine. There are nine steps to follow. . .

1. Set the Fastback 9 to IMAGE mode. Once the machine is in IMAGE mode, the display will read "READY TO BIND" . . . "IMAGE. "

2. Select your Image Strip according to your document thickness. Narrow Image Strips can bind documents with between 10 and 125 sheets of paper. However, the capacity of the image strip will vary depending on the weight of paper and thickness of covers that you choose.

3. Fold the strip to a 90 angle making sure that the adhesive side faces inward.

4. Place the Image Strip into the binding recess with the adhesive side facing up, and the Image Strip's front panel facing the rear of the binder. The long side of the bent "L" should be resting against the back wall. Then slide the Image Strip all the way to the right.

5. Tamp your document cover and pages on the front flat surface of the housing so that they are straight. Once your pages are aligned, place the document on top of the strip with the front of the document facing the rear of the binder. Make sure that you slide your document all the way to the right so that it is aligned with the edge of your strip.

6. Tap the document on the top and the left to be sure all pages are even. Then, push the pages backward to ensure proper binding. Check one more time to make sure that the document edge aligns with the edge of the strip.

7. Press the BIND button on the front of the Fastback 9 binding machine and the binding process will begin. If you need to stop the binding process during the first several seconds of the binding cycle, you can push the OPTN button (the orange button closest to the front) to abort the whole process. This will open the document clamps and release your pages. However, you will need to use a new binding strip when the process resumes.

8. As soon as the display flashes "REMOVE BOOK," pick up the document and place it against a rear book support fence.

9. Let the bound document cool for at least five minutes. The document bind will continue to strengthen as the glue cures. The bind strength will be maximized after 24 hours.

This should provide you with a brief guide for binding documents with the new Powis Parker Fastback Image Strips and the Model 9 binding machine. Using Imagebinding the possibility for branding your documents, reports and proposals is nearly limitless. You can use a standard pre-designed strip or can create your own custom strip that is fully tailored to your organization's image.
