If you are looking forward to become a professional translator or willing to pursue a career in the field of professional translation services then you need to bear a few things in your mind. These few things are discussed below.

First of all you should determine whether there is a scope in industry for languages in which you are going to provide translation services. If there is then how much you can earn,Can you be a translator? Articles can you make your living out of that or the money you are going is enough to satisfy your requirements or not. Because at first you would be taken as amateur in the translation industry and won’t be getting higher compensations for your services.

Another strong point is that there are no promotions and acknowledgements. There are no senior or junior managers for translation services. Translator is just a translator. But if you are really a qualified translator with built-in and God gifted translation skills then you are even more precious than diamond. But, if you are really ambitious and goal oriented or like to get promoted or praised then this profession may not suit you. Most of the times you and your services will be behind the veil. So you need to be modest and least expecting while being a translator. Nobody will possibly ever know that the website or software they are using in their local language is because of your efforts.

Translator’s most needed quality is that he can give words to what he understands. Many people would be able to understand what’s written in source language but they won’t be able to give their understanding a few proper words. Translator should be able to phrase or rephrase the texts. Your grasp on both languages the target and the source, should be so strong that you would be able to say the same thing in different structures and styles. You must be able to improvise. You cannot standardize the translation job, it needs variety and improvisation. Translation of the same phrase that suits in document 1 may not look appropriate in document 2. So, just to conclude if there is scope and you are highly ambitious as well as have grasp on languages then you can become a competent translator.
