The main reason to start a dollar store is to get people to shop for the things they need.  Therefore, you will need to make sure you have items on the shelves people are interesting in buying.  Try to find the best products the market has to offer.

While offering excellent products is important, the type of store you operate is also important.  Think about the type of shopping environment you yourself would want to shop in.  This is the kind of store you need to operate.  Make sure the layout allows for easy navigation with no aisles ending in a dead end.

Before you open a dollar store, you will also want to carefully research your market.  Get to know your customers so you can find out what they really want.  Be friendly with them in order to establish a relationship so they will come back to shop in the future.
It is best for you to know your competition too.  You will need to see what they are doing in hopes of picking up some helpful strategies from them.  Seeing what they are doing wrong will help you to avoid some of those same mistakes.

Everyone needs help every now and then.  Many do not seek the help they need because they are too afraid to ask for it.  Do not let this happen to you.  If you need help somewhere in your business, do not hesitate to ask for it.

Contact other store owners if you have to if you need advice.  Owners in your immediate area may be less willing to help out though.  You should also be aware there are consultants you can hire for the help you need.

Make sure you bring along the right mindset whenever you open a dollar store.  Get to know your customers well.  Do the same with your competition too.  Show employees you can be a true team leader too.
