Companies all over the world use binding machines to bundle documents, reports presentations and proposals. These machines allow you to give your deliverables a professional look that is sure to impress your clients or your boss. However, in order to give your documents the professional look that you desire you will need to choose a binding cover that compliments your document. Of all the choices available, more companies choose paper covers than any other. Yet, choosing a paper binding cover isn't as simple as it might seem. Here are five things to consider.

1. Color: The first choice that you are going to need to make when deciding on the right binding cover for document is the color. If your company has a formal style guide this choice might be simple. However, for smaller companies you will probably have to take a look at your logo and your artwork and choose a complementary color. When choosing the color of the cover you shouldn't forget to consider the color of the binding spine that you intend on using. If an exact color match is really important to you, you will want to get a sample of the cover material before ordering to be sure that it will be a good fit.

2. Weight: After deciding on the color, the next step is to choose the weight of cover that you need. Paper binding covers can range from 65lb cover up to 17pt (almost 200lb). You will need to choose the best option based upon the thickness and rigidity that you require. However, if you plan on running the covers through a laser printer or copier you will want to be sure that your copier can handle thick paper stocks.

3. Size: The size of your documents will help you to determine the size of your covers that you need. It would obviously make sense that individuals binding letter sized documents would use letter size covers. However, if you are considering adding index tabs to your documents or want rounded outside corners on the covers you will need to choose a special size. Documents with index tabs usually are ½" larger than standard size covers so that they are large enough to cover the tab extensions. Documents with rounded corners are always ¼" larger in width and height than letter size so that the rounded corners extend beyond the square corners of your document.

4. Texture: Finally you are ready to make a decision concerning the texture of the cover that you are looking for. There are lots of texture options when choosing paper presentation covers. The most common are linen weave, metallic, regency leatherette, twill and flannel. However, other textures are often available on a custom order basis.

5. Customization: The final consideration in choosing a paper presentation cover for your documents is whether you are going to add customization. Windows can be added to give your documents a touch of class. Foil stamping and offset printing can also be used to provide a fully customized look. Really, the possibilities are almost endless. If you can imagine it, it can probably be done.
