There are a lot of comb binding machines on
the market thanks to the popularity of comb binding among office
workers, teachers, and other professionals. Comb binding machines are
made by a number of manufacturers and two of the most prominent are
Fellowes and GBC. Both companies have produced durable comb binding
machines such as the Fellowes Orion E 500 and the GBC CombBind C800pro.
Here's a comparison of these devices so you can determine which one
would be right for your binding needs:
The Fellowes Orion E 500:
The Orion E 500 is one of Fellowes' newest binding machines. It hit the market in early 2012.
machine has a powerful electric punching mechanism that can process up
to 30 sheets at a time. The device comes with a foot pedal for
hands-free punching. You can bind documents containing up to 500 pages
with this device since it can handle combs that are 2" in diameter.
Orion E 500 has 21 disengageable punching dies and a 12-inch throat.
These features allow you to use paper that's both larger and smaller
than 8.5" x 11". Disengaging certain dies helps you produce the right
hole pattern for whatever you're binding. Also, the machine has an
adjustable margin depth control for proper hole alignment.
The Orion E 500 has a roomy chip tray that can be accessed via the front of the device. This makes emptying the chip tray easy.
machine is made out of metal, so it's very durable and can withstand
heavy use. It's backed by a 1-year warranty which is pretty standard
for comb binding machines.
The GBC CombBind C800pro:
CombBind C800pro is one of GBC's older comb binding machines. In fact,
it was originally called the Ibico EPK21 and GBC hasn't marketed
machines under the Ibico name in quite some time.
the Orion E 500, this machine has an electric punching mechanism and a
foot pedal. However, it doesn't beat the other machine's punching
capacity. You will only be able to punch up to 425 sheets with this
device. (This machine does have a punch margin guide setting so it's
easy to align your paper.) You can use combs that are up to 2" in
diameter with the CombBind C800pro.
comb binding machine doesn't have disengageable dies so you will only
be able to use letter-sized paper with it. If you want to use various
sizes of paper, the Orion E 500 is obviously the better choice.
the CombBind800pro is solidly built and features all-metal construction
despite being an older model. It comes with a 1-year warranty just in
case anything happens.
you can see, the Fellowes Orion E 500 and GBC CombBind C800pro have
some similarities. They're both durable and good for frequent use.
However, the Orion E 500 is the better device because it's new, it has
a higher punching capacity, and it has disengageable dies. Be sure to
consider the Orion E 500 if you need a durable comb binding machine.
