With the recent release of the Unibind Photobook Creator we have had a number of customers ask us about the differences between this machine and the XU138 Binding Machine. In particular they want to know why most companies specializing in binding don't carry the Photobook-Creator. The easiest way to answer that question is with a quick comparison of the two machines.

1. Binding Ability: The XU138 is fully compatible with all of the different types of binding supplies that Unibind makes. Specifically, the XU138 is able to bind books using Steelback Spines, Steelbook Hard Covers, SteelCrystal Covers and SteelMat Covers as well as Unibind Photobooks. The Photobook creator is only capable of binding SteelBooks and Photobooks. If you try to bind any other type of covers or spines in the you will most likely have problems with the bind. The unit does not have the support necessary to bind any non hard covered book.

2. Volume: The Photobook creator is specifically designed for the home consumer market and is not designed to hold up to any volume of binding. If you are only looking to bind five or ten documents as craft projects then the Photobook creator might be a good option. However, companies and users who plan on binding even moderate volumes should not consider this unit.

3. Quality: As was mentioned above the Unibind Photobook creator is not designed for volume applications. However, it is also important to point out that it is not built with the same quality as the XU 138. In fact, Unibind only offers a 90day warranty on the Photbook Creator where they offer a 1 year warranty on all of the other machines that they produce.

4. Binding Time: The Photobook-Creator is only designed to use with one cover at a time and takes almost twice as long to bind each document as other binding machines. Of course this isn't mentioned in the marketing of the Photobook creator.

Most companies specializing in binding pride themselves in only carrying products that they are willing to stand behind. UnfortunatelyFree Reprint Articles, at this point many have chosen not to stand behind the Unibind Photobook creator.
