Many of us would love the idea of living in a nature-focused eco village on the beach, quaint, beautiful, with nice cafes and restaurants, trendy and touristy, yet quiet and relaxed, isolated, yet easy to get to, low cost of living – oh, and don't forget low real estate prices.

While this sounds like someone's asking for too much, if you look in the right place, it's entirely possible.  Where is that right place?

One option is Akumal HYPERLINK "http://www.topmexicorealestate.com/akumal-real-estate/"real estate.

Akumal's Lifestyle

Akumal is a little village directly on the Mexican beachfront, about an hour and a half south of Cancun.  It's a touristy village in a way, but it's also very natural with quiet beaches.  There are protected dune areas, a natural lagoon, plenty of trees, and protected areas in the water to ensure that local wildlife can continue to thrive.  And for many of the tourists that show up, they come precisely to see the nature and the picturesque natural village.

Akumal is known by its group of dedicated tourists – enough to bring cash flow and new ideas to the village, but not enough to overcrowd it.

The cafes and restaurants have thatched roofs and are very open allowing the fresh breeze to pass through.

Real Estate in Akumal

There are many homes in Akumal that are ecologically friendly.  They use a special natural waste-water treatment which uses a mini artificial swamp and the plants absorb the proteins and minerals from the water so they don't filter into the water table and down into the coral reef.

Some homes will have the traditional raised Mayan gardens.

Alternative energy like solar panels and wind turbines are also common place.

There are actual workshops and groups which help people convert to eco-friendly practices.

On the other hand, there is no obligation to be all-out eco-friendly for those who would rather take it a bit easier.  For example, many of the beachfront condos in the same style found in Playa del Carmen real estate can be found on Akumal's beachfront.

There are also luxury homes that have excellent vacation rental potential; people who use their property in this picturesque village only a couple of times a year can cover expenses by renting out to others.

Cancun's international airport offers easy access.

Akumal is that ideal eco-village on the beach; it is natural, relaxed, and affordable.  Here, you can have your cake and eat it too!
