Baker Tilly’s outlook for 2012 states that over half of hospitality and leisure organisations are positive about the upcoming 12 months,Future Looks Bright For The Catering Industry Articles despite this just under half of organisations (47%) believed that the upcoming year was uncertain.
Only 4% stated that the industry had a gloomy outlook which suggests that the majority of businesses have no intention to hang up their catering workwear in the near future.
There are plenty of reasons for them to be positive about the next year. The upcoming events such as the London 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations along with the huge influx of tourists in many parts of the UK, all of which suggest that the hospitality industry is going to see increases in business over the upcoming period.
Other figures provided by Baker Tilly suggest that 2012 could be a great year for the industry with 90% of companies questioned stating that they expected profits to boom or at worst stay the same.
Ali Aneizi of Baker Tilly elaborated on the statistics: "As the results of the Outlook 2012 survey show, despite the UK economy teetering on the edge of a double-dip recession, there is confidence within the leisure and hospitality sector for the rest of the year."
Furthermore, the survey also revealed how things could be further improved for caterers, it was widely stated that the catering industry would benefit from a reduction in VAT or other tax breaks to help improve their situations.
Despite the fact that government help is unlikely at this stage, it shows that catering companies are looking to take the initiative and trying to improve their processes and systems (49%) and improving efficiency (43%) to ensure that their companies continue to flourish.
Aneizi further added: "It seems that the general sentiment among hospitality and leisure firms is fairly positive and they are looking to innovation and improved service to help flourish through these uncertain times."
