Overview:
The GBC Combind C110e is a low cost plastic comb binding machine with a built in electric punching mechanism.
This
machine is designed for offices that are looking to bind a moderate
number of documents per day and don't want to mess with a manual
binding punch.
The C110e is perfect for binding documents
with up to 300 sheets of 20lb paper quickly and easily. You can even
use the C110e with GBC ZipBind reclosable binding spines.
Strengths / Features:
The great thing about the GBC C110e is that it offers an
electric punching mechanism without a huge price tag. The C110e sells
for around three hundred dollars. This makes it one of the least
expensive electric plastic comb binding machines available on the
market.
The electric punching mechanism on the C110e allows
you to quickly and easily punch up to 15 sheets of 20lb paper with the
simple push of a button. All you need to do is insert your pages into
the front of the machine and press the button to activate the electric
punch.
The C110e includes a high quality heavy duty plastic
comb opener that is made of metal. Many smaller plastic comb binding
machines have comb openers that are made of plastic which can easily
break. The comb opener on the C110e is designed for opening combs that
are up to 1-1/2" in diameter for binding up to 300 sheets of 20lb
paper. This is adequate to meet the needs of most organizations.
Weaknesses / Limitations:
Although the C110e has three size settings on its edge
guide for letter size paper, oversized covers and A4 paper in the US it
only has 19 punching dies. This means that you need to flip the pages
over and punch them a second time to produce the A4 punching pattern.
This isn't a huge deal unless you are buying this machine to punch and
bind documents for use in Europe.
The C110e does not include
any disengageable dies. This means that you cannot use the C110e for
punching custom lengths of paper. It is designed for punching letter
and legal sized documents only. This machine also does not have a depth
of punch adjustment. A depth of punch margin control allows users to
move the holes closer to the edge of the paper for binding extremely
small books and further from the edge of the paper for binding larger
documents. Without this feature, the C110e should not be used with
3/16" combs or with combs that are larger than 1-1/2".
The
punching mechanism on the C110e can punch up to 15 sheets of 20lb paper
per lift. However, you should not attempt to punch more than two clear
covers or plastic covers at a time. Punching too many plastic covers
can dull the punching mechanism on the C110e or can ruin its motor.
Recommendation:
The C110e is perfect for users that need to bind a few letter sized documents per day.
The electric punching mechanism on this machine makes it easy to use and its price point is excellent.
However,
this machine is not ideal for users who need to bind extremely small
documents, large documents or who need to bind custom sizes of paper.
