Overview:
The GBC Surebind system
two is a hot knife binding machine that is designed for medium sized
organizations that value performance, professionalism and productivity.
This
system includes a high quality electric hole punch and an electric hot
knife binding head. The fully electric design of this machine helps to
increase productivity and eliminates the need to pull a handle to punch
the pages for your documents.
The SureBind System Two is
capable of binding documents that are up to two inches thick and can
even be used to rebind documents that have already been bound with
plastic comb binding.
Plus, all the documents that you bind with your System 2 will be both permanent and secure.
Strengths / Features:
The
GBC Surebind System Two includes a medium duty electric hole-punch that
produces a special ten hole pattern on a letter sized document. This
hole pattern is designed to line up with the holes that are used for
plastic comb binding. The punch on this machine is rated to handle up
to 22 sheets of paper at a time. However, in my tests I found that it
was easiest to use with between 15-18 sheets of paper. All you need to
do is insert your pages into the front of the machine and press the
button to activate the punch.
This machine can bind documents
up to two inches thick. This provides flexibility to organizations that
sometimes need to bind larger documents. Plus, you only need two sizes
of supplies to create documents with this machine. One inch strips can
bind any thickness of document up to one inch and two inch strips can
bind any thickness up to two inches. This cuts down on the need to
inventory multiple supply sizes and can help your organization to save
space and money.
The hole pattern used for Surebind matches
up with the pattern used for binding documents with Comb Binding. The
pins fit securely in the 19 hole pattern to lock the pages into place.
This means that it is possible to use this machine to rebind documents
that have previously been bound with plastic comb binding. It is also
possible to use this machine in conjunction with a plastic comb binding
punch in order to increase productivity.
Documents bound with
SureBind look great. This is one of the most professional looking
binding systems available on the market. It places a thin plastic strip
along the binding edge on the front and back of your document. This
strip helps to frame your document and provides an elegant finished
look for your bound reports and presentations.
One of the
best things about this system is the fact that it binds documents
securely and permanently. The hot knife technology used by the Surebind
System 2 actually melts and rivets the spine of the document in place.
Once a presentation is bound with this system the only way to edit it
is to cut it apart. This makes it a great choice for creating tamper
resistant documents and reports that contain sensitive information that
you don't want changed.
Weaknesses / Limitations:
The
supplies that are available for binding documents with GBC Surebind are
somewhat limited. There are only a few colors and few sizes available.
Unfortunately, as the thickness of your document gets bigger the number
of options for binding quickly get smaller. If you want to bind
documents that are thicker than one inch then you will probably have to
settle on black binding strips. You may also have a difficult time
finding strips to bind lengths other than eleven inch letter documents.
Organizations who need to bind a number of different document lengths
should look at the supplies that are available for this binding style
before purchasing this machine.
One of the best things about
Surebind is that it is permanent. However, editing documents that are
bound with this machine can be a little bit of a challenge. It is
always a good idea to invest in a Velobind / Surebind debinding tool.
This tool is designed to quickly and safely cut the spine off your
document so that it can be edited and rebound. Just remember that the
strips for this system are not reusable. You will need to use a brand
new strip to bind your document for the second time.
The
Surebind System Two is designed to bind documents that are up to two
inches thick. For many organizations this is more than adequate.
However, companies who believe that they may need to bind documents
that are thicker than this may want to consider the Surebind System
Three. That machine can bind documents up to three inches thick.
This
machine includes a convenient push button punch control. This is great
for handing a few documents. However, high volume users would probably
benefit from a foot pedal control. The larger system three includes
this feature. Unfortunately the system two does not.
Recommendation:
The
GBC Surebind System Two is an excellent choice for medium sized
organizations that are looking for a highly professional fully electric
binding system for their office.
This system can create
documents that are up to two inches thick and provides a highly secure
bind to help ensure that your presentations and proposals aren't copied
or tampered with.
However, before investing money into this
system it is important to first review the supplies that are available
for this system. If the supplies fit your needs then this system will
be a good fit for you.
It is also a good idea to order a
Debinding tool for use with this machine. It will come in handy and is
really the safest way to edit documents that are created with this
system.
