Growing Popularity of PVC Leather

PVC leather (polyvinyl chloride) is a popular material used for making automobile seat covers, handbags, shoes, furniture and jackets. Also known artificial cloth or synthetic leather, it is used in any product that requires a leather-like resemblance. Due to its properties such as wear and tear resistance, water resistance and shiny surface, it has become high in demand. This type of leather can be availed in a variety of designs, textures, colors and prints.

How is PVC leather cloth made?
It is made by direct coating process, transfer coating process or lamination with a calendered film. Initially, direct coating method was used for manufacturing polyvinyl chloride leather cloth. Woven fabric is given as the backing fabric when manufacturing through direct coating method. Later, the demand for a softer leather cloth increased for use in automobile upholstery, domestic upholstery, footwear, bags, belts and garment linings. This demand gave birth to the transfer coating technology. Usually, knitted fabric is used as the backing fabric in this manufacturing method.   
About PV Chloride Leather
It is a variant of Polyvinyl chloride that is being used extensively in the clothing industry where it acts as a substitute to leather. Polyvinyl chloride leather cloth is made after weaving fibers of PVC into a cloth. It is also known as Rexene and is ideal for areas that are prone to dust. This leather cloth is also available as Solid Layer Leather Cloth & Foam Leather. One can find it in different prints, embossing and colors.
The process of producing PVC coated fabrics is quite cheap and the fabric is also flexible. Here are some of the advantages due to which manufacturers prefer PVC:
•    It can be converted into various forms
•    It is not only easy to use but also light weight and durable
•    This material is water proof as well as resistant to chemical attacks
This material is used in making furniture; for instance, flexible PVC is used for coverings, inflatable chairs and inflatable couches whereas less flexible PVC is used for making handles and panels. It is used in making soles of modern shoes because this material provides shock absorbance, support and strength.
Being easy to install and maintain, Polyvinyl chloride is also used in flooring. It is resistant to soap, petrol, detergents and mild or diluted acids. However, it is not used for school flooring due to risk of health hazards.   
Maintenance of Leather Cloth
This material is quite easy to install and remove; however, when it comes to maintenance, it requires a lot of care to maintain the shine and quality. If you own a product made of polyvinyl chloride leather such as a handbag or jacket, you should dust it weekly with a microfiber cloth. For more cleaning, mix liquid detergent solution in warm water, dip a sponge in it and scrub the product gently until all dirt is removed. Once the cleaning is done, the surface can be rinsed with little water. Since the material is water resistant, water can be sprayed directly on the product.
