If you've ever wanted to make your own
hardcover books, you'll be glad to know that it's actually pretty easy
to do. All you need is the right materials, a thermal binding machine, a
cold laminator, and some instructions. This article will guide you
through the bookbinding process so you can make your own books for
personal or professional use. Let's get started....
To begin with, you're going to need gather up your
supplies. The supplies include a thermal laminator, hardback binding
covers, a cold laminator, and the pages of your document. You'll also
need a printout of the cover art and/or title for your document.
Take
a few minutes to look through your document and make sure there aren't
any typos or grammatical errors. You also need to make sure the pages of
your document are in order because it will be very difficult to make
any changes after the book is bound. Insert the pages into a hardback
binding cover and set it aside for a minute.
Turn
on your thermal binding machine if you haven't already. Give it a few
minutes to warm up if needed. (Not all thermal binding machines need
time to warm up. Be sure to check the device's instruction manual if
you're not sure whether warm-up time is necessary.) When the machine is
ready, make sure the pages in your document are flush and then place it
in device. It will be bound in just a couple of minutes.
When
the book has been bound, you should stick it in a crimper for several
minutes. This helps strengthen the binding so pages won't fall out of
your documents. Allow the book to cool off before you do anything else
with it.
At this point, you can begin
making a sticker for the front cover of your book. Take the printout
mentioned in the first step and run it through your cold laminator with
some adhesive-backed film. This will only take a few minutes because no
heat is required. However, you may need a special cartridge for your
laminator depending on the model. When your cover has been laminated,
peel off the backing to expose the adhesive, and carefully apply it to
the front of your book. Feel free to take your time while doing this so
that the sticker is properly positioned. This is really important
because you'll have a really hard time moving it later. (In fact, you
probably won't be able to re-position it at all.)
That's it! You're done and now have a beautifully bound document that you created yourself.
As you can see, making your own hardcover books is easy and it
doesn't really take a lot of time. You can make your own books to give
away as gifts, impress your clients, and so on. You can bind novels,
reports, term papers, photo albums, and more. Just make sure you have
the right supplies and devices and you'll be good to go. Good luck with
your bookbinding endeavors!
