GBC has produced many comb binding machines
that make it easy to create professional-looking documents. One of their
electric comb binders is the C450E and it makes document finishing a
snap. Here is a step-by-step explanation of how to use the C450E:
Take the C450E out of the box and make sure that it looks okay. Plug the machine in and turn it on so you can get started.
The
first thing your should do is start punching holes in your document.
This machine features a vertical, electric punching mechanism and an
automatic centering feature so it's pretty easy to line up the holes
correctly for a crisp, clean look. Also, the machine has a document
separator. You should use it if your document is thick, because it will
divide it into smaller sections for punching. The machine can punch up
to 25 sheets at once.
After
punching holes in your document, it's time to choose a binding comb. The
C450E can help you select a comb if you place your document on the comb
selector. Push the lever against your document to see what size comb
you should use. This machine has a comb storage tray so you can keep
combs at-hand. Combs can be up to 2" in diameter so your documents can
contain up to 425 pages.
The C450E
has a comb opener. You'll be able to identify it easily because of its
lineup of metal teeth. Place your comb on the teeth, making sure the the
comb's tines are pointing up. Turn the knob located on the right side
of the device to open the comb. Don't open it up too far as this can
make binding more difficult than it needs to be.
Start
binding the document by placing the pages on the comb. The comb's tines
need to slip through the punched holes. Sometimes it's easier to bind
the document in sections, so feel free to divide the book into sections
if you want.
Once you've placed all
the pages on to the comb, turn the knob. This will close the comb,
completing the binding process. Remove your document from the C450E and
repeat the process you need to.
If
you need to edit your work later on, just place it back on the comb
opener. Open the comb, add and/or delete pages as necessary. When you're
done, close the comb and remove the document.
Finally,
make sure you regularly empty the C3450's chip tray. The chip tray is
located on the left side of the device. Emptying the tray is important
because the punching dies can become dull if there's too much paper in
the tray.
As you can see,
using the GBC C450E is pretty easy, even if you've never used a comb
binding machine before. Don't worry if you need to practice a bit before
getting the results you want. Sometimes it can take a while to get the
hang of using a new machine. Good luck!
