Shredding your documents on a regular basis
is necessary these days since identity theft is on the rise. Luckily,
most of the paper shredders on the market are easy to use. One of these
is the Fellowes Powershred P-58CS, a cross-cut shredder that's great for
personal and small office use. Here are a few guidelines so you can
successfully use this machine:
First of
all, make sure the P-58CS is plugged in and turned on. You can shred up
to 9 sheets of paper at a time, which is a pretty good amount. The
machine can also shred credit cards. If you're going to shred a credit
or debit card, place it in the center of the feed opening and the
shredder will destroy it. Also, this device can shred documents that
still have staples and paper clips attached to them.
The
P-58CS can shred continuously for up to 5 minutes. However, if you
shred that long, you will need to let the shredder cool off for 15
minutes. You won't be able to shred anything during that period. You'll
need to plan ahead if you have a lot of documents to shred.
This
shredder is equipped with a reverse mode. You can use this mode in the
event of a paper misfeed or jam. To run the machine in reverse, you can
simply slide the power on/off switch to the "reverse" position. It
doesn't hurt to gently tug on the paper while the machine is running, so
go ahead and do so.
The P-58CS is
one of Fellowes' many SafeSense shredders. The SafeSense feature causes
the shredder to stop working if your hands are too close to the paper
entry. This obviously helps make the shredder safe to use. If a paper
jam occurs and the SafeSense feature is engaged, you can override the
feature to clear up the jam. Just slide the "override" switch into
position. Be extra careful when removing the paper and turn SafeSense
back on when you're done.
You need
to oil the P-58CS on a regular basis to keep it in good shape. You can
do this by applying shredder oil to the machine's feed opening and then
shredding a sheet of paper. This will distribute the oil to the
appropriate areas and soak up any extra liquid. Then run the shredder in
reverse mode for a few seconds. You should oil the shredder regularly
as well as whenever the shredding capacity decreases and/or the motor
starts making odd noises.
This
shredder has a 5-gallon waste bin. When the bin gets full, you will need
to empty it. You can do this by turning the machine off, removing the
shredder head, and dumping the shreds. Keep in mind that paper and
plastic shreds will be mixed together unless you shred documents and
credit cards separately.
Overall,
it's pretty easy to use the Fellowes Powershred P-58CS. Hopefully this
article will help you get the most out of this shredder without any
hassle. Good luck and happy shredding!
