Fellowes is one of the leading manufacturers
of office machines and they make some really good comb binding machines.
One of them is the Pulsar 300, a device that can be used to bind
documents containing up to 300 pages. Using this machine isn't
particularly difficult. Just follow these instructions:
Place the Pulsar 300 on a sturdy flat surface such as a desk or countertop.
Lift
the lid of the machine. You'll notice that there is a comb opener lever
on the left side of the device. The lever should be all the way back.
Also, the punching handle should be raised so you can begin punching
holes in your document.
You should
punch a few sheets of scrap paper to ensure that you're satisfied with
the hole placement. If you are, punch holes in your document's pages and
covers. Keep in mind that this device can only punch 15 sheets at a
time. Don't exceed the punching capacity. Doing so is hard on the
machine.
Now it's time to select a
comb for your document. The Pulsar 300 has a comb selector that you'll
find in the comb storage tray. Pull the tray out and insert your
document into the various slots to determine its thickness. Then choose a
comb that's big enough to accommodate your work.
Place
your comb on the metal teeth in the machine. Pull the comb opener lever
back to open the comb. Don't open it too far. If you do, it can be
difficult to bind your document. Also, the comb might go flying and
you'll have to fetch it. This can hamper your productivity.
Begin
binding your documents by inserting the comb's teeth through the holes
you punched in the paper. Don't forget to include the covers of you
document.
When you're done, close
the comb with the comb opener lever. Remove your document from the
machine. If you have additional documents to bind, just repeat the above
steps to finish your project.
If
you find that you need to edit your document after it's been bound, it's
easy to do so. Just place your document in the machine and open the
comb. Add and/or remove pages as necessary and just close the comb when
you're done. It's quick and easy.
Finally,
make sure you empty the chip tray on a regular basis. This will save
wear and tear on the punching dies. Also, lower the machine's lid after
you're done binding. This will keep the interior of the device clean and
keep it in good shape.
As
you can see, it's pretty easy to operate the Fellowes Pulsar 300. This
comb binding machine is one of the most user-friendly devices available,
so you shouldn't have much trouble using it, even if you're new to comb
binding. Remember that the more you use this machine, the better you'll
get at it and soon you will be able to crank documents with little
effort. Good luck and happy binding!
