One of the reasons why many people choose
plastic comb binding is because it's easy to do, especially with the
right equipment. GBC makes a number of user-friendly devices and the
C110E is one of them. Just follow these steps to use this comb binding
machine:
To start, place the C110E on a
flat surface. You'll need to plug the machine in because it's equipped
with an electric punching mechanism.
This
device has an adjustable edge guide so you can use oversized covers and
letter- and A4-sized paper. Adjust the dial to reflect the size of
paper with which you are working.
Jog
your paper so that the edges are perfectly flush. Place the paper in
the throat and press the punch button, which is located on the left side
of the device. The machine can punch up to 15 sheets at a time. Don't
try to punch more than this. If you do, you might end up jamming the
machine.
Now that your pages are
punched, you can select a comb. To measure the thickness of your
document, pull the handle back to move the teeth of the comb opener.
Place your document against the teeth and use the thickness indicator on
the right side of the machine. You can then use a comb that can
accommodate all of the pages and covers. This device can use combs up to
1/2" in diameter to bind books up to 300 pages long.
Use
the handle to move the comb opener's teeth to their original position.
Place a comb on the teeth and open it. Begin stacking your paper and
covers on the comb's tines. The tines need go through the holes punched
in your document. You should make sure to stack the paper before the
covers. The back cover should be the last sheet stacked so it can rotate
to hide the seam of the comb after binding.
Close
the comb and remove your document from the machine. Just repeat the
above steps if you have more documents to bind. Turn off the machine
when you're done so that the machine's motor doesn't burn out.
You'll
need to empty the C110E's chip tray on a regular basis. You'll know the
tray is full when a red light goes on. The tray is located on the
bottom of the machine on the right side. If you don't empty the tray,
the punching dies might become dull because they'll have to punch
through too much paper.
Finally,
here's a little bit of advice. Although the C110E is user-friendly, you
may need to practice a bit before you start producing flawless
documents. This is normal. Remember: the more documents you bind, the
easier it gets.
The GBC
CombBind C110E is a user-friendly comb binding machine that you can use
to bind reports, proposals, anthologies, calendars, and much more. If
you follow the above directions and practice a bit, you'll be able to
bind your documents without any problems. Good luck!
