Sign In Sheet

Many companies could improve their initial impressions by having sign-in sheets on their office reception desks. This doesn't mean a loose-leaf piece of legal paper, either. It costs pennies to have professional sign in sheets produced with your company letterhead at the top. It's one of those things that almost no one is going to think about, talk about, or ever remember. Consciously. And that's the rub. Don't underestimate the little things, because it is those details that comprise a person's subconscious impression, and it matters.

Official Pens

It's one of those promotional items that can really make a difference. Have some pens made up with your company's name, logo, and phone number written on the side. Make it clear that clients and customers can feel free to grab one out of the jar and keep it for themselves. You want them to do this. Every time they use that pen, they will see your company. Make sure the pens are of a certain quality, of course! You don't want your name associated with a subpar product. So many companies will put official pens on their office reception desks and then pair them with an unfriendly, "Give me my pen back" attitude. This defeats the whole point.

Do you have your receptionist sitting at an old poker table with a book underneath one of the legs? This may be all right for a week or so while you attend to more important matters, but this cannot be the impression you give your customers on a long term basis. It's understandable. Office reception desks can be expensive. It's a temptation to cheap out and get something that is functional, if ugly. That may be okay for the boss's desk in the back, but it won't do for the one that everyone sees in the front. Get your priorities straight. Make an impression you can be proud of.
