Moving Forward with our BusinessOur cultural climate is now ready for holistic enterprises. Developing a healing business can be challenging,Moving Forward in Our Business Articles however, as we must incorporate two distinct sets of skills: those of healer & of entrepreneur. For many of us, getting ourselves into a business mindset can be a stretch. This brief article offers tools to help you unblock limitations in your thinking & get in touch with your creative business edge.

The 5 Why’s: Use this when negative thoughts niggle at your mind:

Write down a problem you are currently struggling with. Then write ‘Why?’ and fill in the first answer that pops into your head without self monitoring. Again write ‘Why?’ and note the answer. Continue doing this until you have an answer that provides you with awareness about your situation. This is your limiting belief. (Developed by Japanese auto manufacturers).

Here is an example to help you:

  • Thought: I’m not making enough money from my business.
  • Why?: I’m not charging enough for my service.
  • Why? People don’t want to put out that kind of money…(use up to 5 Why’s)

After only 2 ‘Why’s” we have the following potential limiting belief: <P> “People do not want to pay well for my work”

Now do "The 4 Questions & Turnaround": This exercise is a powerful way to challenge this limiting way of thinking. Use the above example to guide yourself through this exercise. (Adapted by Martha Beck (my trainer) from Byron Katie's original).

  • Limiting Belief: People do not want to pay well for my work.
  • Is this true? Yes or No (no right or wrong answer)
  • When was it not true for yourself or others? >P>
  • My friend has a thriving healing business
  • Some of my practice clients paid me even though I didn’t ask them to
  • Many clients reach for their credit cards without “batting an eye”
  • I’ve developed many strong relationships when the match was good
  • How do you feel when you think the above thought?

I feel:

  • sad
  • young
  • unimportant
  • frustrated

A miracle has occurred & you can no longer think that thought: who would you be?

  • I would be a confident, clear, strong & empowered business person
  • The Turnaround: (Use the original statement & reverse it)
  • People want to pay me well for my work.

Repeating this daily for one week using the same limiting belief will solidify the work. Remember:

  • You are not your thoughts!
  • Once you begin to think differently, you can not go back!
  • Keep taking ‘turtle steps’ you will win the race!
  • Become your own personal “cheering squad”
  • Get lots of support from others…successful people do!!
