Up to 200 Real Estate developers and brokers agree that there is a need for them to learn the use of social networking sites to protect their interests. In a conference held the past week at the Hofstra University,New York Property Developers Eye Social Media to Fight Critics Articles New York-based property trade professionals unanimously agreed that the use of social media should be considered as an integral and helpful part of their businesses.

City developers and planners agreed that they would soon have to learn the helpful use of popular social sites like Twitter and Facebook. They said the Websites could help them intensify and strengthen their respective Real Estate campaigns. There is a logical reason why the industry suddenly looks at the potential of social media in their business operations.

Recently, opponents of several building developments in Long Island’s Huntington Station were able to block a $100 million proposed housing development in the area. The leaders of such opposition were known to have openly used social networking sites to convince other people in the community against the development.

Experts believe that the counter-initiative efforts succeeded mainly because Real Estate developers were not aware that calls against their projects have been intensifying online. The developers were not even aware that there were social media campaigns that aim to oppose the development. The New York Real Estate sector admits that it was not fully aware of the potential impact and scale of social media campaigns. But now, the developers assert that they have learned their lesson.

Experts in the industry said the social media is complex to understand and use, but they have no choice but to learn it. They added that it is now very crucial to use them in their own campaigns and projects. The industry said it would now recognize the fact that most people now get information from social networking sites rather than from newspapers and advertisements. Thus, they added that they would learn new and innovative ways to take advantage of that information.

At present, commercial property or Real Estate Web pages in Facebook and Twitter are dominated by oppositionists of Real Estate development. Observers note that such campaigners succeed in fueling community ire. For now, it is expected that the tight battle between property developers and those critics would further intensify, online.
