Pet photography is a growing field in Orange County. However, to compete effectively, a photographer needs to schedule some fun and creative events. Halloween shoots can be one of those events.

The photography industry is competitive. The photographers, whether wedding, pet, portrait or senior, who thrive are those who find and create original products and services.

Holding a pet Halloween costume photo contest is one way in which a photographer can set herself apart from the existing stiff competition. This article offers some photography business tips on how on how a professional photographer can hold a pet photography event.

  1. Partner with an OC pet store. There are a number of high end stores that are beginning to open in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel. Find one of these stores and add it to your list of locations that you will be applying to.

By partnering with a local pet store in your areas (holding the event in the pet store), the pet photographer will enter into a win/win relationship. The pet store will get the prestige of having a quality professional photographer in the store with an event which will drive pet loving traffic into the store and the photographer will have greater access to pet loving customers and a location to shoot the event.

  1. Prepare a place on your blog for the event.

Before posting to your blog, think carefully about the information you will need before you post. You will want to think carefully about the packages and prices you will be offering and the sample images you want to use.

  1. Schedule the last session sometime in late September.

Halloween is not until the last day in October and thus it may seem that September is too early for scheduling a photography costume contest. You may think your clients are not thinking about Halloween in September; but remember, you are taking the images in September, it may take (depending on your resources) a week to edit all of the images. After the images have been edited, it may take an additional week for your clients to select their images and make their purchase or prints or cards which they can display send out on Halloween.

  1. Hold a best pet photo costume contest.

Holding a best pet photo costume contest will keep the interest level high and drive more traffic to your site.

Performing these steps can help you be assured that your pet photography costume event is successful and profitable.

  1. Find out from the client if they would prefer prints or digital images.

  1. Offer to post a digital image of the pet in exchange for a print.

Following these suggestions will make it more likely that your event brings in revenuePsychology Articles, establishes your photography business as leader in the Orange County pet photography market and builds a productive relationship with a local pet store.
