Simple Tips to Keep the Stress Out of Moving

Moving is a hassle even when it’s a good thing. Having to gather supplies and pack everything can make things more stressful. There are some simple tips that you can enjoy to make the process easier and less stressful.

Relocating, even if it’s to a home in the same city, can be difficult. There is the stress of packing, loading, unloading and unpacking. And just getting all the supplies together to pack can be frustrating. There is no written rule that it has to be a stressful chore, but it often ends up being that way. But there are ways that you can help take the stress out of moving.

Boxes, the most important part of moving, can be a hassle. No one wants to pay all that money to get pieces of cardboard that at best you’ll use a handful of times but in reality you’ll only use once. This expense is almost more than the use of a rental truck. But there are ways of cutting the cost. You don’t have to buy brand new boxes to do all of your packing. Instead check out the back of most stores. They have an area where they keep all of their cardboard boxes, and guess what most of them are just being thrown away. You can get some quality boxes by just picking up what stores have discarded. Also if you’re not comfortable going around and gathering boxes from the back of the store, then ask an employee in the store. They will often give you boxes that they haven’t taken out yet.

Wrapping each of your breakable items separately will help keep them from breaking as you are moving. While you can get away with using paper in between plates and around glasses as a sort of protection, news print can rub off onto your dishes. That means that you will have to wash every piece before you can put it away for use. That can make an already hectic situation worse. The best suggestion is to buy the bubble wrap. Yes, you’ll only use it once but it’s the best way to safely protect your breakables during the trip. If you put clean plates into the box, clean plates will come out of the box and you won’t have to do dishes afterwards. Plus kids love popping the bubbles on the wrap, why not let them have some fun while you finish unpacking.
The easiest way to get things organized when you are moving is to label, label, and of course, label. You can sort your boxes and group like things together in order to allow you to unload quicker. If you have all of your breakable stuff in the same area of the van or truck then you can unpack them quicker once in the house. Sorting by rooms is also a good way to make things go smoothly. Remember the sharpie pen is your friend. Don’t feel bad if you mark on every side of the box what room it goes to and basically what is in each box. This way if you are looking for a certain item you can find it quickly.
