The Swingline 12" ClassicCut Lite offers a fair amount of features for the price. Here is a closer look at this machine and a list of some of its great points as well as some places where it might fall a little bit short.

Strengths and Features:

  1. The blade of the 12" ClassicCut Lite is made of solid steel and is also self sharpening. While depending on your usage and the types of material you cut you may need to take it off and get it sharpened eventually, right out of the box this paper trimmer should be ready to give you a good many years of service.
  2. The CC Lite's blade can also give you a pretty decent cutting capacity of ten sheets per lift, making it a good fit for fairly occasional use in a medium capacity role. The blade has no problem with the common paper stocks, as well as thicker types of paper including card stock, construction paper, and photographs.
  3. There is a handy alignment grid that gives you precise measurements in both metric and US lengths, which greatly assists you in making sure that your cuts are accurate.
  4. One thing that you might really appreciate about the CC Lite is its light wright that makes it easy to move about the office or your home to wherever you need to use it at any given time.
  5. The overall construction of the CC Lite appears to be very solid. Other than the blade, most of its parts are made of plastic, but Swingline appears to have gone the extra mile to make sure that the machine is as durable as can be, and there don't appear to be any points of particular weakness. A solid machine overall.
  6. This machine's cutting length of twelve inches make it a good choice if you are going to be cutting sheets that are letter and legals size and even slightly larger.
  7. As far as safety features, this machine has a latch that hooks around the blade handle and keeps it secure during transport or when the machine is no being used. There is also a rail that helps to keep fingers out of the way of the blade during the cutting process.
  8. The ten year manufacturer's warranty is a good sign as well, especially for a machine that appears to be so durable in the first place. It shows that Swingline believes in the machine too.

Weaknesses and Limitations:

  1. The 12" blade length is great for what it is, but if you are going to be working on projects that are bigger than this, you might want to take a look at some of the larger guillotine paper trimmers on the market. There is, in fact a CC Lite from Swingline that features a 15" blade, so that may be worth considering.
  2. The cutting capacity is good for small to medium jobs, but if you are doing projects that entail cutting hundreds or thousands of sheets on a regular basisArticle Submission, you may want to look for a more capable machine.
