Swingline is known for making some of the
best staplers available and these days, they're becoming known for
making excellent paper shredders as well. One of their micro-cut
shredders is the DSM07-13, a device that's meant for departmental use.
Check out this paper shredder's strengths and weaknesses so you can
decide if it's the right machine for your workplace:
Strengths:
The
DSM07-13 offers an excellent amount of security because it is a Level 5
shredder. (The shredders with the most security have a Level 6 rating.)
When you shred a letter-sized sheet of paper, it will be turned into
6,855 pieces. You can definitely be confident that your information will
be safe.
This machine features a
10-inch feed opening so you can easily shred oversized paper. Up to 8
sheets of paper can be shredded at once, regardless of their size.
The
DSM07-13 is a continuous-duty shredder, so it's ideal if you need
something that can shred non-stop. The waste bin can hold up to 13
gallons of shreds, so this machine can be shared by several people.
This
shredder has a "bin full" indicator so you'll know when it's time to
empty the shred bag. Also, the machine has anti-jam technology so you
can shred your documents without worrying about paper jams.
If
you need to use the DSM07-13 in a shared work area, you don't need to
worry about disturbing your colleagues. The shredder operates quietly so
your workplace can stay somewhat tranquil.
Maintaining
this shredder is a cinch because it's equipped with an automatic oiler
and the blades are self-cleaning. The machine can shut off on its own so
the motor won't overheat.
Finally, the DSM07-13 comes with a 2-year warranty for your convenience. (The cutters are covered for 1 year.)
Weaknesses:
This
machine's main weakness is that it can't shred items like CD's, DVD's,
and credit cards. If you need to shred those kinds of items, you might
want to consider getting a multimedia shredder.
As
noted above, the DSM07-13 can shred 8 sheets of paper at once. This
isn't the best shredding capacity in the world, obviously. However, the
fact that this shredder is continuous-duty makes up for it.
Since
this shredder is meant for departmental use, it might be too large for
smaller work areas. Its dimensions are 24" (height) x 19" (width) x 14"
(depth) so be prepared to make room for it.
From
looking at the bullet points, it's obvious that the Swingline DSM07-13
has a lot more strengths than weaknesses. This machine offers a lot of
security, it can handle both large and small sheets of paper, and you
can even leave document fasteners attached to them. The DSM07-13
operates quietly and continuously, and it can pretty much take care of
itself so you can spend your time doing more important things. While
this machine can't shred multimedia items, it's an excellent choice if
you need a continuous-duty shredder with a high security rating.
