General Binding Corporation (GBC) offers an incredible selection of shredders, including some that are great for use by multiple people in an office setting. One of these machines is the GBC ShredMaster RDS1819. Here are the strengths and weaknesses of this device.

Strengths:

• The RDS1810 can shred up to 18 sheets at once. It not only can shred both letter- and legal-sized paper thanks to a feed opening that's almost 10 inches wide), it can also destroy CD's/DVD's and credit/debit cards. It will even take care of any staples or paper clips left in your documents.
• This is a strip-cut machine that will produce shreds that are 1/6" wide. It offers a Level 2 security rating so it's great for shredding items such as bank statements, correspondence, and junk mail.
• This device is one of GBC's jam-free machines. In addition to having a forward/reverse function, the feed opening of the RDS1819 will glow red if too much paper is inserted into the machine so you can remove the extra sheets. This can help prevent jams from occurring in the first place.
• The RDS18119 has been designed for frequent use in medium-sized offices. It has a waste compartment with an 18.5-gallon capacity so the bag won't need to be changed everyday. The waste compartment is in a drawer so you can pull it out for emptying without much trouble.
• There are casters on the bottom of the shredder so it will be easy to move the machine around your office, if necessary. The casters are lockable.
• This device offers extremely quiet operation so your employees can stay on-task and focused, and not be distracted by a noisy paper shredder.
• All of the controls you need at right on top of the machine and clearly marked, so learning to use this device won't take much time.
• This product is backed by a two-year limited warranty. GBC will also cover the cutting mechanism for a whopping 20 years, which is great.

Weaknesses:

• The RDS1819 has a pretty steep list price of $1,149.99. Obviously this will be too much for some potential buyers.
• Some users might find that the Level 2 security rating is too low. If that's the case, they should consider a cross-cut shredder such as the GBC ShredMaster RDX1413 instead because it has a similar shredding capacity and offers a Level 3 security rating.
• While it's great that this machine can destroy CD's, DVD's, and credit cards, there isn't a separate opening for these items, which means the remains will be mixed with paper waste.

Overall, the GBC ShredMaster RDS1819 is an impressive machine that's perfect if your office needs a paper shredder that's able to handle paper, credit cards, and some electronic media. Although the price is a bit on the high side, this machine really offers some convenient features that justify the price, such as the overfeed indicator and terrific 18-sheet shredding capacity. If those are the kind of features you're looking for, you should really check out the RDS1819.
