This article looks at questions that a consumer of photography services should consider when choosing a portrait or wedding photographer in any of the many competitive Orange County Cities - Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Coast or Corona del Mar.

  1. What is the genre focus of a particular OC photographer? Some photographers are able to effectively focus on a number of different types of photography. Others are able to only produce a quality product within one photography niche. As a rule of thumb, those that have been in the industry for a number of years will have had the time to build up expertise in a number of different photography types while those who are new to the industry will likely only be proficcient in one type of photography.
  2. Do you like the OC photographer's work? A number of people will book a photographer based on the fact that their friend has booked that particular photographer or because the professional shot a wedding for a celebrity. While some people are willing to pay for work that does not resonate with them so long as a famous name is tied to the work, most will be more satisfied with the value received for the money they spend if the work touches a cord in their individual nature.
  3. Does the photographer use professional equipment? There are a number of people who are buying a consumer brand camera and putting their name out there as a professional even though they have very little experience. These people can normally be detected by asking them the type of equipment they will be using on the shoot. If it is not professional grade, you will be taking a high risk with your wedding imates (if you are seeking someone to shoot a wedding).
  4. Is the photographer’s personality one that you enjoy being around. This is particularly true in the arena of wedding photography. The getting ready time, wedding, and reception often span more than an 8 hour time frame. That is a long time to spend with someone you don’t enjoy being around on such an important day. Before booking, call the photographer, talk and make sure you and she do not have basic personality conflicts.

There are generally a number of great photographers any of the OC cities - Tustin, Laguna Niguel, Seal Beach and Long beach. Take the time to find one that is right for you.
