Trade Show Exhibit Rental: Pros And Cons Of Renting Vs Buying

Buying a trade show booth or using a trade show exhibit rental are both great options, but which is right for you? Before you determine which is the best choice, consider all the pros and cons.

A trade show booth is a worthy business expense, but sometimes buying one is just not an option. Because a quality booth can be expensive, many companies are choosing to use a trade show exhibit rental company instead of buying one outright. Before you decide if this is a good option for you, consider these pros and cons of renting vs. buying.

Pro #1: No Large Upfront Cost For Trade Show Exhibit Rental

Using a trade show exhibit rental instead of buying one outright means that you won't have a large upfront cost. Renting allows you to only pay for the days you will use the trade show booth and is the ideal situation if you don't anticipate going to a lot of events. Even if you don't participate in multiple events each year, many companies purchase supplemental items to enhance the booth.

Pro #2: You Can Try Out Different Configurations

Renting also means you're not limited to using a certain type of display time after time. If you want to try out pop up displays at one event and then pop up displays alongside banner stands at another, you can easily do this with a rental unit. Just redo the graphics and you'll be ready to try a new configuration.

Pro #3: If The Unit Wears Out, You're Not Out The Cost

A trade show booth won't last forever, and this goes both for units you've purchased or ones you're renting. If the rental unit you're using wears out or breaks while you're using it, you'll be happy to find out that you're not out the cost to replace or repair it.

Con #1: Rental Units Are Harder To Customize

Although rental units can be customized, nothing beats pop up displays that are created with your company in mind. Personalized units can use angles and lighting to highlight certain parts of the display that might be limited on a rental unit.

Con #2: Long Term Renting Can Cost Your Company More

While buying pop up displays and other display units can cost more up front, renting these units long term can end up costing your business more money in the end. If you plan on attending more than a handful of trade shows each year, it might make more sense to make an investment and purchase a unit. To help with the expense, many companies deduct the cost of the booth or the depreciation on their yearly taxes.

Con #3: The Unit You're Renting Can Come With Damage From Other Companies

When you rent a display, you'll get one that many other companies before you have used. While most companies inspect the booths for damage before and after each and every event, some problems might slip through. Chances are low, but you may actually receive a booth that's been damaged so make sure to inspect the display carefully before you take it to your event. If you uncover the damage beforehand, you'll be able to get it replaced before it's too late.

Buying and renting pop up displays and other types of booths are both great choices -- it just depends which is right for you at any given time. Before deciding to buy or rentBusiness Management Articles, consider all the pros and cons and you'll make a well-informed decision.
