DIN or Director Identification Number is a unique number that is allotted to an existing or a potential director or soon to be directors by the Central Government. It contains all the personal information of the director. All the details of the director are maintained in a database through this 8 digit number. This number has lifetime validity.

Even if the director leaves the existing company and joins another company, the same DIN number remains.

How to apply for DIN?

e-Form SPICe+ 
Allotment of DIN for first directors in new companies has to be made only through an e-form SPICe+ Form during the Process of Incorporation of Company.

e-Form DIR-3 
If a person wants to become a director in a company that already exists, then the allotment of DIN has to be made through an application in e-form DIR-3.

e-Form DIR-6 
Any change in the information of the director has to be filed in e-form DIR-6.
The above-mentioned forms need to be applied electronically for the application of DIN. These forms need to be digitally signed and uploaded in the MCA 21 portal.

What are the documents that need to be attached to the forms?

e-Form SPICe+ 
Attach an identity and address proof. DIN will be allotted to the applicant only after the approval of this e-form.

e-Form DIR-3

Documents that need to be attached

  • Self-attested copies of Residence proof and  Identity proof along with Passport size Photographs.
  • For foreign nationals, the documents need to be attested by the Consulate of the Indian Embassy and also the Foreign Public Notary.

Documents that need to be attested by a CA, CS or CMA

  • Digital Signature of Company Secretary, Cost accountant or Chartered accountant who is in whole-time practice.

e-Form DIR-6
For any changes that need to be made in the e-Form DIR-3 or SPICe+, e-Form DIR-6 needs to be submitted online along with the attested documents that are required.

A DIN or Digital Identification Number is a unique number that is allotted to every director. This is an eight-digit number that has lifetime validity and also helps to fetch the details of the director. The DIN remains the same even if the director changes his company.
