Architect: Rebuilding The Community

When it comes to new buildings, most everyday citizens understand the role played by the architect. However, what some people don't realize is the role they play in rebuilding communities.

At some point in the future or in history, natural disasters have affected or will affect every city, town, community and neighborhood in some way. Whether suffering the devastating effects of a tsunami, a flood, earthquake, hurricane, tornado or snowstorm, communities everywhere will at some point seek help in rebuilding and restructuring.

Architects are highly skilled and educated individuals. Generally an architecture student can expect five or six years of schooling before graduating with a degree. That degree can get them placed immediately in a firm where they will have to gain both experience and continuing education points as they work toward their license. A degree can also be used to gain access into a graduate program where even more specific knowledge can be gained.

Some are solely interested in the structure of buildings. Work environments that shape our daily lives. Others are interested in city planning, refiguring traffic patterns among other tasks. An architect can have any number of specialties, experience and career goals.

Yet, it is these people who in times of a city or communities crisis can step forward to make real change for the future. In the case of hurricane devastated New Orleans, a band of architects, contractors, visionaries and philanthropists worked together to rebuild the Lower 9th Ward.

In the case of the small town of Greensburg, Kansas, nearly wiped off the map by a tornado, city designers and planners worked together toward restoration. What they proceeded to do, over the years following the tornado, was not only rebuild the city, but recreate it. Greensburg is now one of the country's most sustainable and environmentally friendly cities.

It is important to understand the power of an architect to reshape a community. With the work of contractors, architecture can create sustainable environments for future generations. Finding ways to constantly improve everything from buildings to waterways to sidewalks.

Architects can also improve residential environments. When you are considering having your home environment remodeling, redesigned or re-imagined, an architecture specialist can find creative ways to update your home. Most are willing to work with the homeowner to find the best possible use of the house's existing space. New spaces can be added and built-on more easily to spaces that receive updates from the helpful eye of designers.

If you are interested in hiring an architect to help you renovate your home, you should be able to do so affordably. Talk with neighbors or friends that have recently had renovations completely on their homes and see if they have a name to pass along.

The same goes with commercial renovations. If you are interested in having renovations or remodeling completed on your office or business, find someone with background and experience in redesigning work environments like yours. The key is to find the right individual or firm, so talk with other businesses about possible recommendations.

You may not realize the importance of the architect. Look around at your home, neighborhoodFind Article, business and community and you will see their work.
