A community College in the University System of Georgia, Atlanta Metropolitan College is located along the Metropolitan Parkway corridor in southwest Atlanta, in United States . It is a two-year urban, commuter campus that provides affordable education to students basically coming from metropolitan Atlanta .

Brief History

A series of preparatory steps during 1965 to 1972 ultimately led to the confirmation of the setting up of a college in metropolitan area of Atlanta by the Board of Regents. Construction of building started in 1973 and was completed in August 1974. It became the 31 st institution of University system of Georgia and started operating in September,Atlanta Metropolitan College Provides Affordable Education for Metropolitan Atlanta Articles 1974 with 504 students. Two multi-level academic buildings in 1978-79 and new health and physical complex in 1991-92 were added. Established as Atlanta Junior College in 1974, it was renamed as Atlanta Metropolitan College on July 1 st , 1988.

Campus

A unique feature of the campus is multiple approved honorary, professional and social student clubs and organizations. Such organizations include Student Government Association, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, College Choir, International Students Organization and the student newspaper. Extensive facilities for athletics and extra-curricular activities are also available in the college campus.

Programs Offered

Associate degrees and career programs are offered in humanities, fine arts, natural science, business, mathematics, computer science, and social science. Programs are designed to help students transfer to four year institutions or readiness for workforce employments.

Unique Features

Intellectually challenging instructions with hands-on activities and interactive learning are some of the unique features of the college. Business transfer program, business career program, and business cooperative program offering additional edge to vocational and technical certification for the students are other features that make the college stand out as an academy.

Admission

Open admission policy is not followed by the college. Students may apply online or approach the college authorities for admission. Transcripts of all schools and prior college and a verification of immunization, ACT and SAT test scores for transfer students and freshmen are necessary.

Student Support

Atlanta Metropolitan College provides extensive supports along with remedial instructions, career and employment counseling in various aspects, PT cost defraying employment, and on campus library. Counseling includes career and academic counseling and employment services. Freshman Orientation program, personal counseling, veterans counseling, placement services and adult students re-entering services are also offered.

Financial Aids

Atlanta Metropolitan College offers federal, state, local, and institutional grants, scholarships, and student loans. Aids are applied using the FAFSA form.
