It is widely known that medical sector of Maryland is extremely large and people in this profession are growing very fast due to an increase in health care needs. It is reported by US Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics that upcoming years may bring a boom in state health sector because the number of elderly population is increasing speedily requiring long term health care in state hospitals and nursing homes.

It is also expected that a number of nurse aides may be hired in health organizations to provide best health care services to patients.

Maryland is a state that pays very attractive wages to its nursing assistants and being a CNA in the state can be very beneficial and profitable for an individual. The Maryland Board of Nursing has mandated that each nursing assistant must obtain can certification in Maryland and get registered with the state nurse aide registry to be able to work lawfully in the state health care settings. CNA certification in Maryland can be obtained by attending a state approved nurse aide training program and scoring passing marks in competency exam.

As per federal law OBRA-87,CNA Certification in Maryland Provides Great Scope in Medical Sector Articles each CNA program in Maryland must be at least 100 hours long in duration and it should contain the curriculum as prescribed by the state board. The nurse aide training program is a mixture of essential nursing ethics that makes a candidate proficient in both theory aspects and clinical laboratory skills. The board requires students to apply for certification test after completing the program successfully.

The national recognized test agency Pearson VUE has collaborated with American Red Cross to administer the certification test in Maryland. The competency evaluation test is intentionally divided into written and skill test to examine candidates’ level of efficiency in nursing work. Students are required to pass both parts of the test to be eligible to gain the CNA certification in Maryland.

American Red Cross allows students 4 times to take the certification test within 24 months of their training completion. If you fail all 4 times you are then required to go for nurse aide training once again.

Grievance Process

Maryland Board of Nursing also provides grievance facility for their nursing students. If you are satisfied with the result of your certification test you can challenge the score by calling customer care services of ARC. If the conversation is not satisfactory you can fill and submit the grievance form with complete details within 30 days of your test date.

Once your grievance form is received, In-state RN coordinator will start investigation on it. On the completion of the investigation a letter will sent to you. If test agency is found guilty in this matter, you are then allowed to retest at no additional cost.
