Duke University in Durham, North Carolina was founded in 1924 as a memorial to Washington Duke by his son, James Buchanan Duke. Trinity University had long been the focus of Washington Duke's dreams. The University began in 1838 and in 1924, after founding the philanthropic Duke Endowment, became Duke University.

In 1969, the Fuqua School of Business began, followed by the Sanford School of Public Policy began- 1971 and the Nicholas School of the Environment opened in 1991.

The student faculty ratio sits at eight to one, lending to an incredibly rich, personal experience for every Duke University student. Duke is a very large campus, encompassing over eight thousand acres. Keep in mind that a portion of this is forest, making Duke an incredibly serene and beautiful campus. There are seventy seven buildings in all on the campus of Duke University, including classrooms, laboratories, student government buildings, maintenance, sporting and administrative buildings.

It's a large school, the campus covers slightly over 8000 acres. The campus includes a large forest and many beautiful areas where students can relax, study and reflect on their future. There are a total of 77 buildings on the grounds that include sports arenas and practice areas, student government buildings, classrooms, labs and administrative support offices.

The school, itself is quite large, taking up over eight thousand acres of land in Durham. This land includes a very large forest and many tranquil areas that are reserved for student reflection and studying. A total of seventy seven buildings stand on the grounds including the medical center.

On the grounds of the University is the Nasher Museum of Art. The Museum provides a cultural experience for the entire community and outlying areas. Duke University is dedicated to the betterment of all, including the surrounding counties.
