Welcome to Monday Morning Mindfulness . . . to my clients,Monday Mindfulness - 05/29/06 Articles colleagues and friends. Join me every other Monday in getting motivated and inspired to act/think/feel differently.

1. ON SPECIAL OFFERS AND INVITATIONS What if you could have two coaches sitting by your side and guide you through the skill of speaking confidently and persuasively ? Now you can. An Audio CD , 'Power Presentations for Professionals,' will help you master a few simple, yet sophisticated strategies. Do you want to learn how to give a compelling speech? Would you like to know what sets leaders apart? Are you ready to prepare a speech that hits your audience's hot buttons? In this audio CD, two professional speech coaches share the lessons they've learned from their combined 46 years in the field. High content and useful application for business professionals, emerging speakers and coaches. Click here for full description and to order. (available as a CD or MP3 download) Finally, a book that helps you solve difficult problems, fast. 'Without a path of resilience, success often results from a lucky intersection, not an ability to respond out of design, and is like the shifting sands in a desert-- here today and gone tomorrow in many cases.' A shift in focus is being advocated with the CPR System to put efforts towards creating effective design rather than changing the person. Read more at: http://www.cprforthesoul.net/cmd.php?af=382343 Have you ever thought about being a well paid speaker? Learn how to connect with your audience? Persuade people to act on what you say? You can get answers to these questions and more at: Approach the Coach. Go to http://www.schrift.com/approach and ask me your number-one question about speaking skills or speaking professionally. I will answer your questions by email within 48 hours.

2. ON BETTER STORIESDo you notice that the media never covers the best stories? Instead they focus on loss, failure, deceit, murder and war. In short: 'on everything that is wrong.' Why is it that the sports pages record people's accomplishments and the front page usually discusses people's failures? Jurriaan Kamp says, 'every story, every observation, every vision is a human choice.' Suggestion: In response to a terrorist attack, a politician/journalist can encourage us to embrace courage and self-confidence, instead of fear. The Coach agrees . . . 'better stories change the world - one reader or listener at a time.' How do your stories inspire your recipients?

3. ON BETTER WRITINGWriter/editor Barbara McNichol (www.barbaramcnichol.com) shares four techniques that improve writing instantly. 1. Write in the active voice. Passive: It was decided that everyone would take the class. Active: The principal decided everyone would take the class. 2. Use parallel construction. Weak: We've learned to read, write, and we're making sure information is shared. Stronger: We've learned to read, write, and share information. 3. Make the subject clear. Yucky: Driving down the highway, the new stadium came into view. (Who was driving? The stadium?) Better: We saw progress on the new stadium as we drove by it. 4. Use vivid verbs and nouns; don't overuse adverbs and adjectives Mushy: I saw some really pretty yellow daffodils. Interesting: I reveled in a riot of daffodils. The coach says ... sharpen your pencil!

4. ON BETTER WORDSSusan Dunn Dunn (www.susandunn.cc) compiled some of my favorite quotes: 'I don't look to jump over seven-foot bars. I look around for one-foot bars that I can step over' - Billionaire investor Warren Buffett. 'If you're not making mistakes, then you're not doing anything. I'm positive that a doer makes mistakes' - UCLA basketball coach emeritus John Wooden. 'I don't wait for moods. You accomplish nothing if you do that. Your mind must know it has got to get down to earth' - Nobel-Prize-winning author Pearl Buck. 'I never cease to be amazed at the power of the coaching process to draw out the skills or talent that was previously hidden within an individual, and which invariably finds a way to solve a problem previously thought unsolvable' - John Russell, managing director of Harley-Davidson Europe Ltd. The Coach sez . . . these words help me set the intention to pay attention

5. ON LEADERSHIP ADVICEA treasure trove of leadership insights awaits you with Paul Thornton's newest book; 'Leadership Best Advice I Ever Got.' Here is his top ten list. Follow your enthusiasm. Listen to and talk with a variety of people. Never provide more leadership than what is needed. Don't pretend to have all the answers. Don't do exactly what your boss tells you. Develop self-confidence. First seek to understand the other person's ideas. Begin step by step, little by little. Never ask of others that which you would not ask of yourself. To achieve greatness on the outside you need to cultivate greatness on the inside. The Coach asks . . . what are you doing to take your leadership to the next level?
