The Apple iPhone 4 has proven to be wildly popular since its release in summer. Offering several improvements over its predecessor the 3GS, it boasts key features including a 5 megapixel camera, one of the most advanced touchscreens on the market, and an unparalleled internet browsing experience. All of these features are encased within a completely redesigned handset.

The handset measures 9.3 mm,The iPhone 4 Remains A Bestseller Articles making it the slimmest handset in the world. It is manufactured from metal and toughened glass rather than plastic as the previous iPhone handsets were. One of the first things you will notice about this phone is the incredible display quality provided by the 3.5 inch LED backlit IPS TFT capacitive touchscreen.  The screen boasts a pixel resolution of 640x 960, which is amongst the highest available.  This displays photos and videos in high definition, with perfect clarity and rendering of up to 16,000,000 individual colours.  The screen is manufactured from scratch-resistant glass with an oleophobic surface which prevents the build up of fingerprints and smudges when the phone is in use.  Multi-touch input is supported and the screen comes with proximity, gyro and accelerometer sensors as standard.

Depending on which model is purchased, either 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage is provided alongside 512 MB RAM.  Therefore, users have ample storage capacity to store their digital music collections, video clips or any other files.

The iPhone 4 relies on both GPRS and EDGE to stay connected to the appropriate cellular networks when users are out and about.  In areas where 3G coverage is available, the primary means of Internet access is provided via an HSDPA connection which provides download speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second.  However, whenever users have the appropriate access to local wireless networks they can gain an even faster browsing experience thanks to Wi-Fi.  Bluetooth and USB connections are also provided allowing users to connect the handset to other devices.

Another improvement over previous iPhone models is the digital camera.  This time around, a 5 mega pixel device is offered, which operates at a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944.  The resulting images are of superb quality, and enhanced thanks to Autofocus, touch-focus and an LED flash.  A selection of apps is available for download from the AppStore and for editing and resulting photos.  The camera also doubles up as an effective high definition video camera, capturing footage in 720p quality.  A secondary camera is located on the front of the handset which can be used for video calling thanks to the new FaceTime app.

The new iOS 4 operating System works in conjunction with a 1 GHz Apple A4 processor to provide the hardware to run demanding applications with ease.  The user interface is highly customisable, allowing users to assign their own background pictures and even create folders for different apps.

The iPhone brand represents what Smartphones are all about, and the iPhone 4 has become an iconic gadget.  The sky’s the limit, thanks to powerful hardware and access to the AppStore which allows users to create so much more than just a phone, with any new applications which can be used for an infinite number of purposes.

The iPhone 4 looks great and has the technology to match.  It is easy to see why it has proven such a popular device and leaves millions of people in anticipation for the next instalment of the iPhone franchise.
