Dynamics GP Inventory Barcode Scanning and Automation Notes

When you are implementing new Corporate ERP or MRP system, you typically have several phases of rolling out functionality.  We assume that you are already done with Financials: GL, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and now you are thinking on rolling out Inventory Control, Sales Order Processing, Light Assembly, Purchase Order Processing

Here you typically plan to deploy Barcode Scanning and identify scanned code upload integration points in Great Plains.  Our approach is in so-called Solutions, where we offer proven custom code for tuning and deployment in your unique Logistics, Warehouse Management, Consignment, Manufacturing environment:

1.       Barcoding in Dynamics GP.  Every Great Plains screen where you have keyboard input fields could be automated with Barcodes scanning.  Considering the possibility of unique business processes and barcode integration requirements, you may face the situation, when existing Barcoding Add-Ons do not do exactly what you need and you do not want further customize these products.  This is why existing codes reassembly or "Solution" might be more feasible way out

2.       Typical Barcoding scenarios in Dynamics GP.  You naturally want to print barcode labels upon merchandise receipts in Purchase Order Processing module, automate Inventory Cycle count, Point of Sale transactions, Inter Site Inventory Transfers, Packing Slips and Picking Tickets.  Barcoding logic might be complicated with variable weight items (food processing and retail), Lot or Serial numbered items (Jewelry, Souvenirs, Antiquity, Gems, Arts Galleries, Deli Stores, etc.)

3.       Real Time versus Batch mode Barcode integration.  In most of the cases you do not need real-time instant scanned info upload to Dynamics GP, meaning that you can read and store the whole batch of documents in the scanner memory and then upload it later to GP.  However if you decide to deploy Barcode servers, you can try real time integration, when barcoding server is triggering upload or is read by GP every few seconds
