In Chicago metropolitan area there are a lot of mid-size and small businesses with light manufacturing, nationwide distribution, picking and packing. In Corporate ERP, such as Microsoft Dynamics GP these processes are often automated with Barcode scanning, Bill of Materials, Inventory Control, Sales Order Processing and Purchase order processing modules.

Let's review these automations in some technology highlights:
1. Barcode Scanning for Dynamics GP.  One of the most popular barcode integration points is Purchase Receipts and automatic barcode labels printing.  You may require purchase receipt batch to be scanned and then automatically created in Great Plains Purchase Order Processing Module with following automatic item labels printing.  For barcode batch upload to Dynamics GP we recommend reasonably simple Microsoft Dexterity add-ons.  And for Barcode Labels printing you can decide on Reporting tool: GP Report Writer,Dynamics GP Partner Chicago: Barcoding, Warehouse Management, Logistics Articles Crystal Reports or Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (often referred as SSRS).  You may have numerous barcoding integration points, as virtually every Dynamics GP screen, where you can enter data via keyboard allows you to do the same by reading and instant uploading of the barcode.  This is why you may decide to do custom add-on (typically Great Plains Dexterity) versus trying to tailor existing of-the-shelf Barcode extension
2. Warehouse Management extensions for Great Plains.  We have numerous product and so-called "solutions" (solution is where you have proven codes, but it requires tuning or deployment, supported by our Dynamics GP consultants).  Typical solution is barcode scanning based and involves several modules, such as Inventory Control, POP, SOP, sometimes Bill of Materials.  Often smaller businesses do not want to deploy full scale Dynamics GP manufacturing set of modules and instead prefer small custom add-ons, written in Microsoft Dexterity to automate only required MRP and Logistics automation functionality
3. Dynamics GP integration and interoperability.  There are often such requirements in Supply Chain Management as EDI (abbreviation for Electronic Document Interchange), eCommerce bi-directional connection.  Simple EDI could be realized in precisely formatted SQL Select query and eCommerce integration usually involves Dynamics GP eConnect programming in C# or VB.  Classic (text files) and complex (advanced ODBC) integration to Great Plains could be done in Integration Manager (integration on demand - batch mode, or scheduled - quasi real time mode), or in eConnect (real time integration)
4. Barcoding and Warehouse management projects for Dynamics GP often requires local support, where your Great Plains consultants visit your warehouse.  We provide local support in Chicago, Naperville, Plainfield, Downers Grove, Romeoville, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Hinsdale, Cicero, Oak Park, Lisle, Aurora, and other Chicagoland areas.  We also provide local support in Los Angeles and San Diego.  Feel free to call us: 1-866-528-0577, help@albaspectrum.com
