Microsoft Dynamics GP, as well as AX, or former Great Plains and Axapta use FRx Financial Reporting for P&L, Balance Sheet, Statement of Cash Flow as well as for the consolidated versions of those reports. FRx is very powerful and at the same time it has numerous settings, where you can easily get lost.

This small publication is written in FAQ style and should help you make initial FRx troubleshooting internally,Dynamics GP Partner Newsflash: FRx reports troubleshooting Articles before appealing to external Great Plains consultants for FRx support:

1.       FRx Sysdata directory.  If you are setting up new computer for new Great Plains and FRx user, please review existing FRx workstation and check where FRx sysdata is set.  Admin->Organization->Sysdata.  When you do new FRx installation first you do not change sysdata and let it be installed in C:\Program Files….  Then you apply FRx current service pack (you should be aware that Dynamics GP 10 requires FRx 6.7 SP 9 at least to be applied, otherwise it FRx is not compatible with GP 10.0.  Please on existing FRx workstation open help and About FRx and write down release number, should be something like 6.7.10343.  Be sure you get the same version as existing FRx installs on your new one) and change sysdata location to be exactly the same as for other users

2.       FRx errors.  One of the most popular errors is related to the fact of .G32 file corruption.  FRx builds so-called GL indexes (to facilitate its access to specific company General Ledger, you should be able to identify G32 files, separate for each company and with the name, comparable to DB code in SQL).  When users are opening FRx, while other users are also in, company G32 file may become corrupt.  Symptoms: you wait indefinitely just after entering user login, seeing GL Index rebuilding on the bottom of the screen; or you cannot make changes to effective report dates (they are coming back as you click away from the period number field – this is typically when you have changed GP fiscal periods structure and duration); or you are trying to add accounts by natural segment and see that the length of account lookup is now reduced in number of characters (when you occasionally changed main segment in GP company->Account Structure) – these errors are typical, but you can see others.  The fix is simple: have all the users log off FRx, in sysdata folder identify G32 file for the company (typically you can find this file as being modified just few minutes ago in Windows folder), rename it and log in FRx normally
