How to Determine Which Kind of Remote Desktop Solution is the Right One for Your Business

There are different kinds of remote access programs and solutions out there. Here is how to determine which one would do the job for your business.

In the world of Remote Access  tools, there are a few choices that you have when it comes to selecting a remote access solution for your business.

The two main categories of these tools are: server based remote access programs and PC to PC remote access programs. In the server based model, the client PC connects to a remote server which is dedicated for this purpose. The user is then presented with a virtual desktop. One main advantage of this is that it allows more than one user to be logged into the server at the same time, as each user would have their own separate login and desktop. A PC to PC type of remote access tool would run on a PC, which is also usually a workstation when not used remotely. The user can connect to it from another computer or a mobile device. While this is the simplest and most inexpensive form of remote access, it may not be suitable for everyone. This is because with this kind of PC Remote Control Software, the server PC can only be used by one user at a time in the majority of cases.

Here are some factors to consider when you want to decide on which kind of solution you would like to implement:

·         The size of your business

Do you have a lot of users? If you would have only a handful of people that would need remote access, then a PC remote access software tool that would let them log in to their individual workstations remotely will probably be sufficient. But if you have more than a dozen users, a server based model may be more appropriate.

·         Frequency at which Remote Desktop Software will be used

If your users will only need to use the remote desktop software very rarely, then a PC to PC model might be a good choice for you, as it is designed for relatively light use.

·         Use of telecommuters

If your company employs workers who do all of their work by telecommuting, or external consultants that will need access to your company network, then deploying a server based model will be the logical solution. Since these people will rarely (or never) be at your actual location, assigning each one of them an individual workstation just so that they could connect to it remotely will not make much sense.

·         Your level of technical skill and the presence of a tech support or IT department in your company

In general, server based remote desktop software applications are more complex and slightly harder to configure and manage than a PC to PC software type. However, you don't really need to be an IT professional to install a server based virtualization solutionArticle Search, but you would still need to be comfortable working around computers and know some networking terminology.
