The registered trade name for Apple workstations is Mac Pro. Although it is based on Xeon microprocessors,The Best Of The Best Apple Workstations Articles it is same as the Power Mac G5. The company has modified the Power Mac G5 so as to alter its outer looks and expansion abilities. Amongst all Apple computers Mac Pro is the quickest. Plus amongst the three Macintosh computers it is one together with Mac Mini and iMac.
Previously Mac Pro worked on Xeon Woodcrest processors that are dual core. Next to that, the dual Quad-core Xeon model was unveiled termed as Clovertown. Then this too was succeeded by Harpertown system which also was dual Quad-core Xeon. The present system has Intel Xeon processors. They are based on Westmere microarchitecture of Nehalem. This workstation provides choices of up to twelve processing cores, up to four 2TB hard disk drives or 512GB solid state drives and ATI Radeon HD 5770/5870 graphics.
Prior to the launch of Mac Pro it was anticipated that some kind of Intel-based replacement will be brought in by Apple for the Power Mac G5. All the rest of the equipment for example iMac, Mac Mini, MacBook and MacBook Pro were improved to Intel-based design except Power Mac G5 which still was based on PowerPC. Numerous guesses were expressed about the advancement of Power Mac G5 and its various possible internal configurations based on variety of chipsets. However because just prior to the 2006 WWDC Intel unveiled a new Core 2-based Xeon machine, it became quite clear that Apple’s computer will have it albeit it was a coincidence.
Apple Workstations i.e. Mac Pro resembles the other Unix workstations like the previously produced by Sun Microsystems. Apple all the time proclaims itself as authority in non-linear digital version for HD video though it is not that powerful in that kind of machinery. The videos demand a lot more storage and memory than a general desktop computer.
Nevertheless all in all, Mac Pro is well admired due to its good efficiency, realistic expansion ability, silent function and quality of structure although Intel’s Xeon platform is not targeted for general purpose. Mac Pro consists of one or two processors with cores in the range of four, 8 to 12. These processors support Hyper-Threading which reproduce the amount of cores efficaciously. One more ability of the present Mac Pro is the Turbo Boost technology of Intel which accelerates the clock rate of a core dramatically at gaps of 133 MHz if the temperature of CPU is less than normal.
Memory of the latest Mac Pro is 1066 MHz for regular brands. Bandwidth is 8GB/s with a usual installation of a single FB-DIMM which can be enhanced up to 16 GB/s with installation of 2 FB-DIMMs on each of the buses. In case of hard drives Mac Pro can contain four 3.5 SATA-300 hard drives which can be placed in separate trays. Every machine offers a collection of four such sleds. The drive is attached to the machine just by positioning it in the particular drive slot and hence the computer doesn’t require fixed cables. There is a case lock on the backside of the machine to maintain the disk trays perfectly.
Evidently the Apple workstations are highly efficacious computers generated knowing all the requirements of the users.
